The Yates Community Service Scholarship

The legal field is an industry derived from basic concepts of service to members of the community, and practicing law is one way that people decide to dedicate their professional lives to giving back. From its inception as a profession, the primary purpose of those who practice law has been to uphold what is just on behalf of others and for the benefit of society as a whole.

The partners at Giannini and Yates are proud to announce the inaugural Yates Community Service Scholarship, which will be awarded to the student who best demonstrates how their current career interests stemmed from community service experience.

Robert Giannini has a wealth of experience serving others. A graduate of the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business and the Georgia State University College of Law, Giannini graduated top five from the U.S. Army’s Officer Candidate School and served with the 82nd Airborne Division, 1st Armored Division, and 201st Military Intelligence Brigade. A founding member of the DUI team of the Gwinnett County DUI Court, Giannini is a passionate advocate for the rights of defendants and an enthusiastic trial lawyer.

After working as a corporate lawyer, Allen Yates was left wanting fulfillment from his career. Yates transitioned from representing corporations to providing counsel to individuals struggling through the legal system, and found his passion helping people with limited resources find solutions to their legal troubles.

A graduate of the Vanderbilt University School of Engineering and Georgia State University College of Law, Allen is committed to seeking justice for his clients, whether he is working on defending their Constitutional rights, or ensuring that the correct party is held responsible for injuries they may have sustained.

The Giannini and Yates Community Service Scholarship will award $500 to the student whose essay is the best demonstration of the relationship between their career interest and community service.

Essays should be 750 words in Times New Roman 12-point font, and should contain no grammatical errors. In addition, applicants must submit an updated resume and have a 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA from an accredited college or university.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

• This scholarship is offered to any student currently enrolled in an accredited community college, undergraduate, or graduate program in the United States. This includes incoming first-year college students who are high school graduates or possess a GED.
• All eligible candidates must be in good academic standing, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

Application Requirements

• An updated resume, including your contact information and status as a student
• A 750 word personal statement that provides a thoughtful analysis of the relationship between community service and the career the applicant is interested in pursuing
• A current unofficial transcript from the applicant’s school (NOTE: First-year college students must submit an unofficial transcript from their most recent school, as well as an unofficial transcript from their current post-secondary institution.)

In order to be eligible, scholarship applicants must submit their full application (personal statement, transcript, and resume) by email to help@lawyeratl.com. The official deadline for all application materials is May 31, 2017.
